RG Wing Gundam Zero EW (1/144 Scale) Review
RG Wing Gundam Zero EW is based on the Gundam Main piloted by Heero Yuy during the events of the Endless Waltz OVA where all the original Gundam got a redesign. Wing Gundam Zero was given angelic wings for the Endless Waltz show.
The RG Wing Gundam Zero EW is a scaled-down version of the MG Wing Gundam Zero Ver. Ka.

Build and Out-of-the-box appearance
The RG Wing Gundam Zero EW has the same runners and base design as the RG Wing Gundam EW. The only difference it has is the wing design and the weapon accessories that it has. So, if you had built an RG Wing Gundam EW, building this model kit is an identical process.
It has 9 runners, most of which share the same mold used for Wing Gundam EW. Like most RG Gundam kits, you start by building the inner frame.
The color separation of the Gundam armor is still good in this model kit. It also has some armor gimmicks like the pieces moving when you bend the Wing Gundam’s limbs.
The build is also quite straight as the Wing Gundam EW. This just shows how simple the design for RG Wing Gundam is. The Instructional manual is mostly in Japanese, but it is easy to follow. There are also few tiny pieces that can get lost.
Overall look, the Wing Gundam Zero EW is the same as its TV show appearance. The dark blue and red complement each other well. Those colors also enhance the whites and grays of the model kit. The wings look cooler due to the color scheme of the Wing Zero EW.
This is one of the few RG Kits that benefit from stickers. You would like to put the stickers in this one, especially the white stickers. Though most of the stickers in this kit is like the Wing Gundam EW, it is more noticeable in the Zero due to the darker color scheme
The wings of this Gundam are beautiful to look at and it is one of the most creatively designed wing attachments for a Gundam.
One nitpicks on this model kit is that the shoulder armor is just held in place by friction. If you accidentally knock this model over the shoulder pad it would get detached fast.
Accessories
The RG Wing Gundam Zero only has a basic set of accessories compared to the RG Wing Gundam EW
The accessories include:
- Wing Zero’s signature weapon is the Twin Buster rifle that can separate into two individual buster cannons
- Two beam sabers
- A miniature Heero Yuy
- Hands with articulated fingers
- Open hands
That’s all the accessories this model kit has. Even though there is so little accessory for RG Wing Zero EW, it is its wings that make up for this.
Articulation
The wings of Wing Zero EW are the highlight of this kit. The articulation is so dynamic, it is a joy to pose. The main wings are attached to a series of pegs and joints to achieve this excellent range of movement. The main wing can rotate 360 degrees on the peg it attaches to, and the joints help it move up, down, forward, and sideways. The secondary wing though only has limited movement compared to the main wings.
The body of the Gundam also has an outstanding range of motion thanks to the RG inner-frame. Same with the RG Wing Gundam EW, the Wing Zero EW can also swing its shoulder forward enabling it to do the Wing Zero’s signature pose.
The wings are quite heavy relative to the weight and dimension of the kit. You can make it stand without the help of a figure stand by using the secondary wings as a kickstand if you want the main wings in a dynamic pose.
You will need a figure stand to appreciate the poses that it could make. This model kit looks cool in aerial poses. From afar it looks like a robotic angel on its mission to bring retribution.
Can you put the wing of the RG Wing Zero EW on an RG Wing Gundam EW?
No, you cannot. The wings of both are attached to the model kit in different ways. The Zero has its wing attached via peg holes while the Wing Gundam EW uses a hook design for the wings, which is important for its Neo Bird transformation?
Conclusion and Recommendation
If you want to relive the 90’s nostalgia or just want a cool-looking model to be displayed on your table, you will want this Gunpla. The RG Wing Gundam Zero is one of the best-looking RG kits. It might be a simple build and not technical, but this kit is oozing charisma.
The wings make this kit stand out from the rest of the model kits. It is just a weird design to give a robot biomechanical wing, absurd but cool at the same time.
Bandai Hobby #17 RG Wing Gundam Zero EW Model Kit (1/144 Scale)
The ever-iconic winged Gundam from Gundam Wing Endless Waltz returns in Real Grade form! The wing structure of this Wing Zero interpretation is based on the application of current real-world technology used in aircraft. Considerable thought has been put into heat protection and machine protection as well as design and function for an otherwise unorthodox mecha design.
