Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed Wireless Mouse Review

The Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed Wireless mouse is an ergonomic wireless budget gaming mouse that is part of the popular Razer Basilisk line. It is cheaper and has a similar design to the more popular Basilisk Ultimate.

It feels like using a Basilisk Ultimate but with some drawbacks to justify its much lower price tag. The Basilisk X Hyperspeed has no RGB, no DPI indicator, has no means of wired use, and uses an AA battery with no way to charge via USB. On the upside, it is a very high-quality mouse for gaming and even productivity and would give you almost similar performance to its more expensive brother.

Sensor

The Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed uses a modified PW3369 sensor that Razer calls a “5G sensor”. This sensor can go up to 16,000 DPI and the DPI setting is adjustable through the Razer Synapses software.

Out of the box, there are 5 DPI presets that you can cycle into just by pressing the DPI button on the mouse: 800, 1800, 3600, 7200, 16000. You can change this DPI setting through the Razer Synapses and this setting will be saved in the onboard DPI storage. But there are users that say that some DPI adjustments can be a bit unreliable.

There are 3 settings for the polling rate: 125, 500, and 1000 Hz. The Basilisk X Hyperspeed goes by a 1000hz polling rate by default.

Buttons

There are 6 programmable buttons that can be configured to let you use macros and secondary functions by using the “Hypershift” feature found in the Razer Synapses software.

This mouse also uses proprietary Razer switches to get accurate mouse click responses and is also rated for 50 million clicks of durability. The switches used are also clicky, it is loud but not too loud like in other brands that use Omron switches.

The X Hyperspeed uses a mechanical switch unlike the Basilisk V2 and Basilisk Ultimate that uses Razer’s optical switches.

It has a standard notched scroll wheel. It cannot be adjusted like in the other versions of the Basilisk. The X Hyperspeed also lacks the tilt wheel that the different version has.

There are 2 side buttons that are programmable using the Razer Synapses software.

The Basilisk line’s signature sniper button is noticeably missing from the Hyperspeed.

Physical Appearance

The Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed sports an ergonomic design and a right-handed configuration. There is a slight incline towards the left side of the mouse to improve its ergonomic design. It has a thumb rest on the left side

The physical dimension of this mouse is 5.11 in.(L) x 2.36 in.(W) x 1.65 in.(H), it is a big mouse, but it is also surprisingly comfortable to the hands. You can use the palm grip, fingertip grip, or claw grip with this mouse whatever the size of your hands. This is also a heavy mouse, weighing 106 grams.

The chassis has a matte finish that is good for gripping the mouse. The side of the mouse also has rubber grips to prevent the mouse from slipping from your hand due to quick movements during gaming. There is a bit of smooth plastic in the chassis, but it is just a design choice to make the mouse aesthetically pleasing to look at.

Magnets are holding the battery cover. Besides the battery, there is a compartment for the 2.4 GHz wireless connector.

There is no RGB on this mouse to save battery life. There is also no DPI indicator when pressing the DPI button, so you’ll be guessing which DPI setting you are using sometimes.

Connectivity

The Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed can be connected using a 2.4GHz wireless USB dongle or using the Bluetooth built-in feature. 

Using the 2.4 GHz wireless connection ensures a low latency gaming experience while the Bluetooth connection will give you better battery life and more portability option for the Basilisk

Using the 2.4 GHz connection the battery life can reach up to 280 hours while the Bluetooth connection may give you up to 400 hours of battery life.

The Bluetooth connection sometimes feels floaty and inaccurate, so it is best used when you are not gaming.

The only downside this mouse has in terms of connectivity is that it doesn’t have a wired connection. This mouse has a good battery life so it might not be an issue overall.

Everyday Use

Office and Productivity

Due to the Bluetooth feature, it is very portable and can be used on the go, in school, or in work without needing the dongle. Just connect the mouse to your work computer via Bluetooth and it just works.

Some might find the gamer aesthetic too much for the workplace or school but the all-black color scheme without RGB helps the Basilisk X Hyperspeed to blend in.

Gaming 

It is good for FPS, but the weight might affect the aim of some gamers. It just needs getting used to and the weight is just a non-issue when playing an FPS.

I love using this mouse when it’s MOBA and MMO, it is amazingly comfortable, and weight isn’t really a problem. The Hypershift feature is also good when playing MMO, I can assign macros and secondary functions to the buttons.

Conclusion

This is a good gaming mouse with good ergonomics for comfort and good connectivity options for portability.

This is a good purchase if you want to use only one mouse in your home and at work. You can attach the dongle to your home PC and leave it there while bringing the mouse to work and connecting it to your work computer via Bluetooth.

But some reason to not buy this mouse is that it doesn’t really offer much as a mouse. There are other gaming mice that offer the same functionality at a much cheaper price. It is also a heavily downgraded version of the Basilisk line of Razer mice. You can get a better mouse while sacrificing portability by buying the Basilisk V2 or just buying the Basilisk Ultimate, a far superior gaming mouse at a higher price tag.
