Logitech G502 HERO Gaming Mouse Review

The Logitech G502 HERO is an ergonomic wired mouse that is one of the most famous mice in Logitech’s line. It is a well-built mouse with a right-handed ergonomic design that has thumb support. There are also 11 programmable buttons and 6 onboard profiles that you can customize via Logitech G Hub software.

It is a heavy mouse, and you add more weight to it by adding the five removable weights that come with the mouse. You can adjust the weight to your preference.

If you are familiar with the Logitech Master MX’s Hyper fast scroll, this mouse also has that. The scroll also has a Left and Right Horizontal scroll in it.

Sensor

The Logitech G502 HERO uses the HERO sensor. It has a DPI range from 100 up to 25,600 which is adjustable using the Logitech G Hub Software.

Out-of-the-box, the DPI is adjusted in four settings 1200, 2400, 3200, and 6400 DPI which you can cycle through using the buttons marked as G7 and G8 beside the Left click button. You also have four polling rate options; 125, 250, 500, and 1000 which are adjustable using the Logitech G Hub software.

The lift-off distance is around 1mm, so it won’t affect your aim or cursor movement when lifting your mouse up to adjust your arm’s positioning on the table.

Buttons

This mouse has mechanical switches and 11 programmable buttons, even the sniper button is also programmable. You can program all the buttons in this mouse except for the button behind the scroll wheel as it is just a button for the hyper-fast scroll locking mechanism.

You can add macros, add G-shift, or change the modifier of each button using the Logitech G Hub Software.

One thing I really like about this mouse is the profile switching. You can add 6 profiles in the mouse and cycle between them using the button marked as G9 or whatever button you assigned as the profile cycle button. With this, you can bring this in a LAN party and still have all the macros or G-shift commands intact in the onboard memory.

Light presses are enough to use the Left and Right clicks, sometimes I get accidental clicks because the 2 primary buttons are quite sensitive to pressure.

The Mouse Wheel

The G502 HERO features Hyper Wheel which is a notched wheel and a freewheel. The Hyperfast scrolling wheel can be set as a notched wheel or a free wheel using the button behind it.

The free-scrolling wheel is a good productivity tool combined with the horizontal scrolling button in the wheel, but this is not useful from a gaming standpoint.

Having the scroll wheel unlocked while gaming is just an unpleasant experience. Just leave it in the notched setting while gaming.

Appearance

The mouse itself is well-built but sometimes the scroll wheel feels loose even when locked to be a notched wheel. It also has an incline for ergonomics, but I barely feel the incline it feels like a level mouse 

The grips have a nice curve to them that didn’t slip in my hands during gaming. The etched design helps keep my finger from slipping but it is also good at catching sweat and dust, you might need to clean the rubber grips to avoid the buildup of dirt.

The G502 HERO is a heavy mouse; it weighs around 120 grams without the cable. You can add 18 grams more by putting the included weights that each weighs 3.6 grams (there are 5 pieces).

It is also a large mouse with dimensions 130x42x76mm (LxHxW), so it might not be comfortable for people with small hands. People with small hands might have trouble reaching the sniper button or the DPI buttons.

This mouse also has RGB lights that can be customized using the software. The RGB light is minimal compared to other gaming mice, only the logo and the DPI indicators have RGB. You also need to set the RGB in the DPI indicator to be always on in the software if you want to see it lit up all the time.

Connectivity

G502 HERO has a braided 2-meter wire. The wire is soft enough to not be a drag during gameplay. The wire is not removable, this reduces its points for portability. 

Everyday Use

Gaming

This is an FPS mouse through and through, the weight is adjustable and has an adjustable DPI setting, and has a sniper button for shifting DPI sensitivity.

For MOBA and RTS, just having the G-shift and the high customizability of the buttons is great. I have already put different modifiers and G-shift in my G502. 

Productivity and Office Use

This is a productivity mouse masquerading as a gaming mouse, the Hyper scroll on a gaming mouse looks cool on paper but it is not really a feature that is geared towards gaming. With that, I had a fantastic time with this mouse for editing music and video. The Hyper scroll and the horizontal scroll were just too good for scrolling through my editing timeline.

Conclusion

The Logitech G502 HERO is a great mouse, they were trying to get gamers that are also programmers, editors, or other professionals to buy this mouse. It is great for gaming but coincidentally good for productivity purposes too.
