Logitech G102 Light Sync Gaming Mouse Review

The Logitech G102 is one of the budget gaming mice that Logitech offers. Though it is priced and marketed as an entry-level product, it is still a great gaming mouse for any budget-conscious gamer that wants a reliable and high-performing mouse.

As gaming continues to grow in its pursuit of excellence, so does hardware. Due to all these new game releases requiring higher graphical fidelity, lower input latency, and an overall smoother experience, it’s great for gamers that companies like Logitech design products specifically catering to gamers looking for a competitive edge over others in their games.

Suppose you are serious about playing competitively in anything from FPS games such as CSGO or Overwatch to RTS games such as Starcraft II, rather than having hundreds of key binds and macros that most gaming mice provide. In that case, we recommend a mouse with general bells and whistles to cater to typical use, which Logitech G102 provides.

Sensor

The mouse sensor used this time around is Logitech’s Mercury mouse sensor which is as good as Logitech’s custom mouse sensor that they have been utilizing in some of their best-selling mice such as the Logitech G303 and Logitech g502 so you can expect a great overall performance from this unit.

It has a maximum DPI of 8000, tracking at 450 inches per second, and acceleration of 25 G max speed with Logitech’s software, allowing you to enable or disable its smoothing feature (angle snapping), set lift-off distance, and report rate.

Buttons

The Logitech G102 features the usual buttons left, and right, a scroll wheel up and down, a dpi button, and most importantly, two customizable buttons on the left side of the mouse (which can be personalized using Logitech software).

Logitech claims that each one of them is rated for 20 million clicks, which means you’re guaranteed a smooth experience with the Logitech g102

It has 6 programmable buttons that can be configured using the Logitech G Hub software.

Logitech has also provided their in-game sensitivity switching technology on this product, making it easier to switch through different dpi values when playing games requiring multiple fast movements when switching from sniping or zooming to close-quarter encounters. You can set 4 dpi settings within Logitech’s software and change between them by pressing the Logitech button on your mouse or holding down Logitech + alt keys

Physical Appearance

The mouse’s body is remarkably like its predecessor Logitech G100s, in shape but not in size- it is much smaller than its predecessor. It is an ambidextrous design so that both left-handed and right-handed users can easily use it.

Its dimensions are 116.6 x 62.15 x 38.2mm and around 85 grams in weight.

This mouse has RGB lighting that can be customized using the Logitech G Hub Software. Logitech boasts that the lighting can set up up to 16 million palettes.

It features 4 feet long, lightweight cable with gold-plated connectors for better conductivity. It also features Logitech’s light sync technology, which allows you to synchronize up to 4 Logitech G compatible peripherals (keyboard, mouse, etc.) to one of the following Logitech products depending on your personal preference:

  • Logitech G Logitech hub (g213 or g810 keyboard)
  • Logitech G613 wireless mechanical keyboard
  • Logitech G502 proteus spectrum RGB tunable gaming mouse

Connectivity

As for connectivity, it can be connected to a USB-A connector. It has a lightweight non-braided wire to connect to the computer. It is also compatible with both Windows and macOS devices.

As for latency, our tests show no noticeable input lag (tested at 1000hz).

Everyday Use and Gaming

The G102 is a lightweight mouse and small mouse that will not add to the bulk of your bag if you decide to carry it from your home to your office or to a LAN event.

It fits people with small hands and would be loved by people who like using a light mouse. A palm grip and claw grip are ideal for small hands. For people with large hands, a claw grip would be comfortable when using this mouse.

One gripe with the G102 is that it has only one onboard profile, which means that if you use a diverse set of macros for gaming or office work, you need the Logitech G Hub Software to set up an additional profile but only one can be saved in the mouse.

What is the difference between G102 and G103?

They are the same mouse; the difference is that G102 is the model’s name used in Western markets while G103 is used in Asian markets

Conclusion

One final note that we would like to mention about this product is that Logitech has made this mouse ambidextrous by providing a Logitech G button on both sides of the Logitech G102, which can be very convenient for left-handed gamers.

The biggest downfall about this product is it has only two side buttons which can be an inconvenience if you are used to using many macros but overall, the build quality is great as it has a solid plastic body as well as a good matte coating that does not feel cheap which is surprising considering Logitech products tend to be more on the pricey side. However, nonetheless, it is still an inconvenience due to its small size. It might also take some time to get used to if you are transitioning from another larger mouse, so keep that in mind before purchasing it.
