Helltaker Game Review
Helltaker is one of the most memorable games I’d played for years. This charming short puzzle game made me want to replay it at least ten more times. The motivation of the protagonist is downright stupid, it’s hilarious; to build a harem of devil ladies from hell.
What I Liked About Helltaker
The demon ladies may not have complex personalities but every one of them is so memorable and endearing for the short period you interact with them, from the stressed-out hell receptionist Pandemonica to CEO of hell Lucy.
The gameplay is just a simple puzzle game where you push blocks to reach the girl at the end of the stage, trying to not exceed the set number of steps while also avoiding traps and hazards in the stages. There are hidden runes in each room, so you’d better find them too. If you didn’t die after solving the puzzles, better answer the girls correctly or it’s game over.
The art style is cute and has a very cohesive theme. Even though the color palette is a ton of shades of red, it doesn’t really hurt looking at the game.
After 8 stages of puzzle games and visual novel gameplay, the boss of the game suddenly puts you in a rhythm game arena where you dodge slew of stage covering attacks ala bullet hell while trying to kick the boss in her weak spots.
The soundtrack by Mittsies is also an absolute banger, I would suggest visiting their YouTube Channel for their other works; https://www.youtube.com/c/Mittsies
I highly enjoyed this game; I completed the trophies this game offered. The developers even gave an anniversary update and added stages for free. Did I forget to mention that the game is Free on Steam? Yes, it’s free so, try it out now.
Conclusion
If you like fun, cute devil ladies, challenging boss fights, puzzle games and on top of that a free game, take Helltaker for a spin. It might even enamour you with its quirky charm.
