Is G502 Lightspeed Wireless Good? A Mouse Review

The Logitech G502 Lightspeed is an ergonomic wireless mouse with 11 programmable buttons and adjustable weights. It is an incredible mouse with a right-handed ergonomic design that has thumb support. There are 6 onboard profiles that you can customize via Logitech G Hub software.

For a wireless mouse, this is one heavy mouse, and you add more weight to it by adding the removable weight that comes with the mouse. This mouse weighs around 110 grams with an additional 16 grams of weight if you have a heavier device.

Logitech G502 Lightspeed’s Sensor

The Logitech G502 Lightspeed uses the HERO 25K sensor. It has a DPI range from 100 up to 25,600 which are adjustable using the Logitech G Hub Software. This sensor can register 40 g of acceleration and 400 IPS of speed. It uses the standard polling rate of 1000hz, which is good for latency and input response.

The lift-off distance is around 1mm, so it won’t affect your aim or cursor movement when lifting your mouse up to adjust your arm’s positioning on the table.

Buttons

This mouse has mechanical switches and 11 programmable buttons. You can program all the buttons in this mouse except for the button behind the scroll wheel as it is just a button for the hyper-fast scroll lock.

You can add macros, add g-shift, or change the modifier of each button using the Logitech G Hub Software.

Light presses are enough to use the Left and Right clicks, sometimes I get accidental clicks because the 2 primary buttons are quite sensitive to pressure.

The G502 HERO features a Hyperfast scroll wheel which is a metal notched wheel and a free wheel. The Hyperfast wheel can be set as a ratcheted wheel or a free wheel using the button behind it. Though even in its locked position, the wheel doesn’t feel very tight, it is somewhat loose.

The free-scrolling wheel is a really good productivity tool combined with the horizontal scrolling button in the wheel, but this is not useful from a gaming standpoint. Having the scroll wheel unlocked while gaming is just a terrible experience. Just leave it in a ratcheted setting while gaming.

Appearance

The grips have a nice curve to them that didn’t slip in my hands during gaming. The etched design helps keep my finger from slipping but it is also good at catching sweat and dust, you might need to clean the rubber grips to avoid the buildup of dirt.

The G502 Lightspeed is a heavy mouse, it weighs around 110 grams which is 10 grams lighter than its wired brother G502 Hero. You can add 16 grams more by putting the included weights.

It is also a large mouse with dimensions 133x40x75mm (LxHxW), using a claw grip is recommended when using the mouse. The palm grip will be comfortable too, but the fingertip grip might not be comfortable with a mouse this large and heavy.

This mouse also has RGB lights that can be customized using the software. The RGB light is minimal compared to other gaming mice, only the logo and the DPI indicators have RGB. You also need to set the RGB in the DPI indicator to be always on in the software if you want to see it lit up all the time.

Having the RGB light on, you’ll have around 48 hours of battery life, and 60 hours of battery if the RGB is turned off.

Connectivity

G502 Lightspeed can be connected to your computer via a 2.4ghz dongle which has an impressive performance that is indistinguishable from a wired mouse, as expected from the Lightspeed name.

G502 Lightspeed has a braided 2-meter USB to micro-USB charging cable. G502 Lightspeed can also be charged through the Logitech’s Powerplay Mousepads

Everyday Use

Gaming

This is perfect for FPS gaming, with the G502 unbound from the limits of its wired existence it has become even better as a mouse for shooting games.

For MOBA and RTS, just having the G-shift and the high customizability of the buttons is great. I have already put different modifiers and G-shift in my G502.

Productivity and Office Use

Like every other G502 mouse, the hyperfast scrolling wheel is great. Now that it is also wireless, I might even use this more than my wired G502 HERO mouse.

Comparison and Conclusion

Compared to the G502 Hero, its wired equivalent, the only practical difference is the connectivity. It is still the same mouse just with wireless capability. On the refreshed models, it is similar to the G502 X Lightspeed which fills the niche but the G502 X Lightspeed has far better latency and response time due to its using optical switches which the G502 Lightspeed does not have.

On the competitor side, the Razer Basilisk V3 X Hyperspeed might be the most similar mouse, both are wireless, have secondary macro settings, ergonomic design, and have reasonable price tags. The only difference Basilisk V3 X hyperspeed has is that it has dual wireless connectivity.

The Logitech G502 Lightspeed is an incredible mouse. I didn’t think that making an already great design wireless would make it even greater. The only thing that would turn off people from buying this mouse is its price, it is expensive but, in its defense, this is an exceptionally good mouse for work and gaming.
