HG IBO (1/144) Gundam Vidar Review

The Gundam Vidar is a Gundam piloted by the masked antagonist Vidar. This Gundam made its appearance during the second season of the Iron-Blooded Orphans series.

This Gundam is a dual-wielding gunslinger aesthetic with an edgy look. Despite looking like an edgy Gundam it has some elegance in its design and I like Gundam Vidar for it.

I already painted my Gundam Vidar, what you are going to see in the images is not representative of the out of box appearance

Overall Design

This Gundam uses the IBO inner frame as its base. The inner frame of the Vidar is the same as most of the IBO HG models kits. The design is quite simple and very easy to build. Despite the simple design of the aesthetic of this Gundam, it tries to be cool looking and show an essence of being an agent of vengeance.

The torso of the Gundam Vidar is quite slim but the legs and the side skirt are quite bulky. The bulkiness of the lower part of the Gundam doesn’t affect its mobility and articulation but due to the bulk of the side skirts, storing other accessories like the rapier handle and a rifle can impede the arms articulation.

For the Gundam’s colors scheme, it uses blue, red, and gray. The blue armor and the black inner frame compliments each other and acts as the main colors of Gundam Vidar.

The head of the Gundam seems to be a bit small compared to the official artwork, it is not that bad. Maybe they shrunk it down for articulation purposes or for proportion reasons.

Accessories

The model kits have the following accessories:

  • Two hands with their wrists in an angle
  • Saber
  • Rifle
  • two pistols

The MS 1/144 Option Set 7 has an additional accessory for the Gundam Vidar, a set of open expressive hands. I would not suggest buying this add-on, it is not worth it unless you have the other IBO Gundams that also have accessories in the set like the knives for Gundam Astaroth Origins.

Articulation

The Gundam Vidar can do dynamic poses due to the IBO inner frame. The armor of the gundam doesn’t interfere with the Vidar’s movement but the large side skirts can limit the movement of the arms.

The connection between the torso and the hip are loose in my model kit, I assumed that the heavy backpack is causing the joint to weaken.

There are also articulating blades in feet of the Gundam.

This is a well-balanced Gundam, you won’t need a figure stand to make sure it doesn’t fall. You might still want a stand because it really shines in aerial poses.

The wings in the back and the armor side skirts are fairly loose in my own model kit and can fall off easily, other than that it is an amazing model kit

Conclusion

Like any IBO kit, this is a great kit. This is a good kit for a beginner and an experienced builder. It has articulation, this is a Gundam that needs a stand to really explore some dynamic poses.

If you like a dual-wielding gunslinging Gundam, check this model kit out.
